In just over a week, will be joining Bwani Junction as part of a 15 PIECE BAND to perform Paul Simon’s Graceland in its entirety as part of Celtic Connections, as it reaches 30 years old.
Have been arranging horns for a 6 piece section, which as well as my usual suspects, will include two of the original sax players – Morris Goldberg (who also played the famous penny whistle solo on You Can Call Me Al) and Barney Rachabane (who toured Graceland with Paul Simon alongside Hugh Masekela in the 80s).
The band have put a lot into recreating the feel of the album, which adding their own touches, and I’ve endeavoured to do the same with the horns. Been having a lot of fun finding new approaches and writing for such a large section…
Turns out over 900 folk have already thought this sounds good, so if you want to come, get your tickets quickly!
